  Forum cleanup
Posted by: Kevin - 07-09-2016, 10:52 AM - Forum: News - Replies (4)

Hello everybody,

I just wanted to say that I have deleted all users that have registered since the beginning of our site that have no posts.
This because many of them are spam-registrations, that only registered to have their profile URL on our site to gain more traffic, or to spam our site.

Because of this, I decided to delete the bulk of them - none of our active members (those that posted at least once) will be affected by this, but it will only improve our site.
We've gone from about 1250 members to 40 because of this, but I'd rather have 40 good members than 1200 members where only a few really count.

From now on, I'm also going to close the forum down a bit more (in terms of spam/registrations) to keep this problem a bit more under control.

Lastly, I just wanted to say that I'll be introducing a new method to donate soon and once again I'd like to ask to whitelist us in your adblocker - in all these years that our site has ran, I haven't even gotten a single pay-out (we're at €48 right now) and the minimum is €75. I'd like to hit it one day Tongue

Site now running on new server + SSL enabled
Posted by: Kevin - 24-02-2016, 05:09 PM - Forum: News - Replies (8)

Hello everybody,

Just a quick note that I've moved our site to a different server. Should you have any issues, please let me know.

Next to that, our site is now encrypted thanks to Let's Encrypt. This means that your visits to our site are now encrypted with an SSL certificate!
If you use an old version of Firefox, Chrome or another browser, you might get a warning because of an invalid certificate - in that case, your browser doesn't include the latest certificate authorities.

Our site is completely safe! Wink

[ad] Looking for a great mailprovider?
Posted by: Kevin - 20-01-2016, 10:00 AM - Forum: News - No Replies

A bit of advertising perhaps, but I really would love to recommend my current e-mail provider (which has been my provider for the last few years), Fastmail!

It's not a free provider, but one that focusses on speed and privacy - no ads here! If you need a host for your website, I truly recommend them. I'm not an easy customer, but I've been theirs for 3 years now.

* Note: I did use my referral link, but all income directly goes to the Fan Hub! *

  Planned maintenance
Posted by: Kevin - 01-09-2015, 08:40 AM - Forum: News - Replies (1)

Hello everybody,

On the 3rd of September, our website might go offline for a few minutes (about 2-5 minutes). Our sites will still run internally, but our internet connection will be cut for a few moments.

This is the window in which this will happen:

Maintenance start: 2015-09-03 01:00 UTC
Maintenance end: 2015-09-03 08:00 UTC

Should you have any questions, feel free to shoot.

  Conversion completed
Posted by: Kevin - 15-06-2015, 10:23 AM - Forum: News - No Replies

Hello everybody,

Just a little quick update to notify that we've completed the conversion. We're now running on MyBB instead of IP.Board which we were using before.
This changes quite a lot of things, so it's possible that there are several posts that look funky or have HTML tags littered within them, or even other stuff. If you see these, please let me know so I can take care of these.
For the rest we've managed to convert almost everything without any errors. However, we couldn't convert the attachments or avatars, so I'm sorry for that.

If you want to, I can however try to recover your attachments. Please send me a PM if you want me to do so.

For the rest this move has lowered our yearly costs with about $50. So that's a big change!

  Pending conversion of forums
Posted by: Kevin - 14-06-2015, 09:03 PM - Forum: News - Replies (1)

Hello everybody,
This is mainly a heads-up to notify you guys that I'm going to move away from the current forum software, IP.Board. It's been giving me headaches for many months now, and I'm fed up with it.
Because of this I'm going to (try) to convert our forum into another software. This will take some time and might cause our site to be offline at times. I'm sorry for the inconvience this will cause, but it's the only way forward I fear.
Right now, with all the issues, our site is very hard to use. IPS has been no help whatsoever, and our license expired and I refuse to renew it.
So, to keep it short, we might be unavailable for a few hours in the next days.
But, in the end, all will be better!

  Website updated
Posted by: Kevin - 02-03-2015, 04:59 PM - Forum: News - No Replies

Hello everybody,
Just a little notice (like you didn't notice it before :P) that I've upgraded the website to a new version.
If you find any bugs, please let me know so I can report them.

  Donation box added
Posted by: Kevin - 16-01-2015, 06:16 PM - Forum: News - Replies (20)

Hello everybody,

Just a quick note that I've added a sidebar to allow donations.

The costs for the Spellborn Fan Hub are each month about €25, and any help covering these would be nice [Image: default_smile.png]

So far the ads haven't even covered a single month, so if you want to support us, feel free to do so!

Thanks,

Kevin

  New URL and SSL enabled!
Posted by: Kevin - 26-12-2014, 05:33 PM - Forum: News - Replies (2)

Hello everybody,

Just a quick update to let you guys know that the main forum URL is now <a data-ipb="nomediaparse" href="http://www.spellborn.org">http://www.spellborn.org</a>(or simply spellborn.org). The forum.spellborn.org will continue to work, but might throw in SSL errors.

That's right, since today, we have a SSL certificate installed, which means that it's now more secure and safe to surf on the Fan Hub.

It's a small thing for security, but every bit helps [Image: default_smile.png]

Massively.com's The Game Archaeologist covers Spellborn
Posted by: CowMooFlage - 12-10-2014, 11:42 AM - Forum: News - Replies (7)

Yesterday Massively.com decided to cover The Chronicles of Spellborn in their The Game Archaeologist's series. They touch on the entire lifespan and ideas behind the game. It's well worth a read and I recommend everyone to go through the warmhearted comment-section which is filled with positive memories of our favorite game.
